A very lazy Sunday yesterday, plans to snowboard were cancelled in favor of relaxing at a nearby onsen in Nakayama. Takuhide Ryokan/Inn offers the following description of its baths on their English-friendly website...
The spa at "Takuhide Inn"
"There are three natural hot springs at the site of "Takuhide Inn". These hot springs were found about three hundred years ago. The temperature of the thermal water at the outlets of the springs is about 100 degrees centigrade. The pressure of the thermal water is so high that it jumps more than 30m above the surface of the earth. We therefore do not need any extra power to send the hot water to the baths. Our spa is known as "eel skin lotion", which means that our skin becomes as smooth as eel skin if we take a bath in the spa.
We have three open-air plunge baths and two indoor plunge baths. One open-air bath is called "Tsuru-Kame Spa", where "Tsuru" means a crane and "Kame" means a tortoise. It consists of two plunge baths, one for men and the other for women. Another open-air bath is called "Chousei' Spa", which means a spa for long life, and is located in a Japanese style garden. It is a mixed plunge bath for both men and women.
Since the space of plunge bath is huge enough, it is possible to keep sufficiently far away from each other in the plunge bath, and is believed not to be uncomfortable for women. Besides these open-air plunge baths, there are two indoor plunge baths, one for men and the other for women. The thermal water of all the plunge baths comes directly from the hot springs at the site of "Takuhide Inn". The spa at "Takuhide Inn" is particularly good for skin ailments, burns, wounds, female disorders, diabetes, neuralgia, rheumatism, etc."
